Wearable Interactive System with Uncoded Gesture Recognition Logic Enabled by Deep Learning

Gesture interaction has emerged as a highly effective interface for intelligent human-computer interaction, attributed to its intuitive interaction modality and multi-dimensional control capabilities. However, traditional gesture interaction devices often depend on predefined encoding rules, which substantially limit interaction efficiency and degrade user experience. This study introduces an innovative intelligent finger ring interaction system based on a triboelectric nanogenerator utilizing PDMS/SrTiO3 composite thin film (PS-TENG). The system maps freehand writing gestures directly to textual information input, thereby eliminating the need for complex gesture encoding schemes and offering a user-friendly, low-learning-curve input method. By integrating a deep learning model, the system achieves recognition accuracies of 98.21% for English letters, 96.87% for Arabic numerals, and 96.44% for Chinese characters. Furthermore, it supports secure and encrypted data transmission and enables wireless interaction for gaming control. These findings indicate that the intelligent finger ring interaction system possesses significant potential for practical applications in information input and wireless control.

Spatio-temporal Evolution Patterns of Carbon Budget in the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps

Accurate accounting of county-level carbon budgets and their spatio-temporal evolution is essential for formulating low-carbon development strategies tailored to each division and achieving carbon peak and neutrality goals. This study constructed a comprehensive, accurate, and unified model to measure terrestrial ecosystem carbon absorption, anthropogenic carbon emissions, and net carbon budget from 2010 to 2020 across the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps and its divisions. Results indicate: (1) Terrestrial ecosystems consistently acted as net carbon sinks, but total carbon absorption declined slowly, with carbon sequestration capacity persistently decreasing. Cultivated land, the sole carbon source, expanded rapidly into forests and grasslands. Anthropogenic carbon emissions rose steadily, with growth rates sharply decelerating after 2015, exhibiting a spatial pattern of "high in the north and east, low in the south and west." (2) Total carbon emissions/absorptions increased rapidly from 2010 to 2015, then slowed from 2015 to 2020. Energy consumption dominated, contributing over 95% of emissions in each division and 99% regionally. High-emission zones expanded eastward from the 8th Division in the Junggar Basin; by 2020, the 8th, 13th, and 6th Divisions, occupying 26.52% of the land area, carried 78.16% of net carbon emissions, marking them as high-density emission zones. (3) Carbon balance zoning in 2020 identified one carbon sink functional zone, nine low-carbon maintenance zones, and three high-carbon optimization zones, the latter concentrated in a strip in the central-eastern region covering 26.52% of the area.

Tellurium vacancy-rich Bi2Te3 as a high-performance cathode material for aqueous zinc ion storage

Layered transition metal tellurides (TMTs) are promising cathode materials for aqueous zinc ion batteries (AZIBs) due to their graphite-like layered structure and weak van der Waals interactions, which facilitate rapid ion transport. However, their holistic performance—specific capacity, rate capability, and cycling stability—remains insufficient for practical applications. Here, we report a straightforward NaBH4-assisted chemical etching method to introduce abundant Te vacancies on the surface of Bi2Te3 (denoted H-Bi2Te3). Experimental and theoretical analyses reveal that these Te vacancies refine the band structure, enhance electrical conductivity, and significantly reduce the diffusion barrier for Zn2+ ions. Additionally, the vacancies provide increased storage sites for Zn ions. Consequently, H-Bi2Te3 exhibits superior zinc storage performance: a high Zn2+ diffusion coefficient of 3.98×10−11 cm2 s−1, a specific capacity of 325 mAh g−1 at 0.1 A g−1, a rate capability of 217 mAh g−1 at 1 A g−1, and exceptional cycling stability with 70 mAh g−1 retained after 10,000 cycles at 1 A g−1. This work introduces a novel vacancy defect engineering strategy for TMT-based cathodes in AZIBs and expands the potential applications of vacancy-rich TMT materials.

Hydrothermal Carbon with Abundant Oxygen-Containing Functional Groups for Photocatalytic H2O2 Generation in Water and Seawater

Photocatalytic production of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) from sustainable biomass-derived carbon catalysts offers a renewable route to valuable chemicals, yet the regulatory role of surface functional groups on reaction kinetics remains underexplored. Here, hydrothermal carbon spheres (CS) rich in oxygen-containing functional groups demonstrated a remarkably high H2O2 production rate of 653 μmol/(g·h) in both pure water and actual seawater, without any sacrificial agent. The catalyst also exhibited outstanding activity in visible-light-driven photocatalytic oxidation of benzylamine to imines, achieving 92% conversion and >99% selectivity. Comprehensive analysis revealed that CS was rich in surface oxygen-containing functional groups, a feature strongly associated with its high photocatalytic efficiency. The observed positive Zeta potential of CS in seawater likely diminished electrostatic repulsion against positively charged intermediates, facilitating their accumulation at the liquid-solid interface. This work proposes a strategic framework for developing metal-free photocatalysts from biomass, offering a sustainable pathway for photocatalytic applications.

Pollution Characteristics and Ecological Risks of Microplastics in Surface Waters of Coastal Area and Rivers Entering the Sea on Hainan Island

Coastal areas serve as critical ecological interfaces for the migration of terrestrial microplastics (MPs) into the ocean, and characterizing their pollution is essential for integrated coastal management. This study investigated the occurrence, sources, and ecological risks of MPs in surface waters of nearshore areas and river estuaries around Hainan Island, a typical tropical tourist island. MPs abundance ranged from 316.67 to 1300 n·m−3 in seawater and from 400 to 5416.67 n·m−3 in river water. In seawater, the dominant polymer was polyethylene terephthalate, with fibers being the predominant shape, size class 500–1000 μm, and white/transparent color. In river water, polypropylene-ethylene copolymer dominated, also as fibers, but with size class 100–500 μm and white/transparent color. Seawater MP abundance showed a significant positive correlation with tourist numbers, and distribution across functional areas followed: tourism areas > natural areas > aquaculture areas > residential areas. Multiple correspondence analysis identified household plastic waste, laundry wastewater, aquaculture, and fishery products as primary sources of seawater MPs. Principal component analysis indicated homologous characteristics between seawater and river MPs, suggesting rivers are a major pathway for terrestrial MP transport to coastal zones. Ecological risk assessment revealed low pollution loads, with potential ecological risks moderate for seawater and medium-low for river water. Notably, 15% of seawater sampling sites exhibited polymer risk level Ⅳ, primarily driven by polyacrylonitrile's high biological toxicity. These findings provide a scientific basis for developing MP pollution control strategies in Hainan Island.

Development of a Fully Coupled Bed Combustion Simulation Method for Grate-Fired Furnaces Using Fluent UDF

In municipal solid waste (MSW) incineration simulation, the traditional FLIC-Fluent coupling method suffers from long iteration cycles across multiple operating conditions and significant errors due to data mapping at the coupling interface. This study developed a fully coupled bed combustion simulation program based on Fluent User-Defined Functions (UDF). By integrating four modules—dynamic regulation of particle emissivity, zonal motion control of the grate, bed drag shielding, and wall collision-induced fragmentation—the program achieved fully coupled calculation of solid waste particle movement, bed combustion, and furnace flow fields within a single Fluent platform, completely replacing the bed calculation functions of FLIC software. A 750 t/d reverse-inclined forward-feeding grate furnace in a Chinese waste-to-energy plant was selected for engineering validation. The model was calibrated using continuous operational data from 12 on-site measurement points. Results showed that the computational time per operating condition was reduced by 71.4% compared to the traditional FLIC-Fluent coupling method. The relative error between simulated furnace temperatures and on-site measurements was ≤4.10%, significantly outperforming the 9.68% maximum relative error of the traditional method. The proposed method provides a reliable engineering simulation solution for optimizing operating conditions and screening blending schemes in co-incineration of multi-source solid waste.

N-vacancy engineering Zn single-atom site boosts efficient photosynthesis of hydrogen peroxide

Photocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) for hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) production via the two-electron pathway offers an environmentally friendly oxidant and a clean fuel. However, challenges exist in optimal oxygen (O2) adsorption capacities and maintaining O–O bond during O2 activation. Herein, we present a zinc single-atom catalyst (Zn/VN-CN) incorporating nitrogen vacancies (VN), designed to modulate the electronic structure of the photocatalyst, leading to optimized O2 adsorption energy and a remarkable enhancement in H2O2 yield. Benefiting from the synergistic effect between nitrogen vacancies and Zn single atoms, the optimized Zn/VN-CN catalyst exhibits a photocatalytic H2O2 production rate of 2.399 mmol g−1 h−1 under visible-light irradiation, representing a 12-fold enhancement compared to pristine g-C3N4 (CN), along with a high H2O2 selectivity of 87.4%. Combined experimental and theoretical studies indicate that the Zn-N3 sites act as highly active reaction centers, while nitrogen vacancies increase the charge density and downshift the d-band center of the Zn sites, thereby moderating O2 adsorption strength, lowering the activation energy barrier for the formation of *H2O2, and further converting it to H2O2. This work proposes an effective strategy for tuning O2 adsorption behavior to achieve highly selective and active photocatalytic H2O2 production.

Oxygen Anion-Mediated Electron Pump Suppressed Iron Segregation in Cobalt-Iron Catalyst Boosts Ampere-Scale Seawater Electrolysis

Electrochemical seawater electrolysis powered by renewable energy is a highly promising route toward sustainable hydrogen production, mitigating both energy shortages and carbon emissions. However, chloride-induced corrosion and competitive chlorine evolution reactions lead to metal site dissolution, severely impairing durability, especially at industrial-level current densities. Here, we report a nitrite-incorporated cobalt-iron layered double hydroxide (CoFe-NO2−-LDH) electrocatalyst that exhibits exceptional activity and stability for seawater splitting. The nitrite anion acts as an electronic pump: it accepts electrons to facilitate the formation of high-valence Fe species essential for initial OER activation, and donates electrons under high potential to suppress oxidative dissolution. Moreover, the negatively charged nitrite generates an electrostatic repulsion field that effectively repels chloride ions, protecting metal active sites from corrosion and segregation. The in situ characterization confirms that nitrite doping weakens the Fe–O covalency, which suppresses lattice oxygen participation and promotes a stable adsorbate-evolving mechanism, consequently leading to significantly enhanced operational stability. When used as an anode, the CoFe-NO2−-LDH catalyst achieves over 1000 h of stable operation at 1000 mA cm−2 in seawater electrolysis, demonstrating great potential for practical applications.

Carbon Emission Accounting and Reduction Pathways for a Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant in Lanzhou

Under the national carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals, carbon reduction in municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) has been largely overlooked, yet accurate accounting is the first step toward mitigation. This study establishes a carbon emission accounting method for a municipal WWTP in Lanzhou, covering the operation and maintenance phase, to identify key emission sources and propose feasible reduction pathways. The results show that the total annual carbon emission in 2023 was 61,399.80 t CO2-eq, with an emission intensity of 0.71 kg CO2-eq per tonne of wastewater treated. Monthly emissions were relatively stable, with a coefficient of variation of 3.46%. Direct emissions accounted for 47.47% of the total, with N2O being the dominant contributor (61.89% of direct emissions), followed by CO2 (30.88%) and CH4 (7.23%). Indirect emissions accounted for 52.53%, dominated by electricity consumption (95.15% of indirect emissions). Pearson correlation analysis revealed that direct carbon emissions per tonne were significantly correlated with influent BOD5 concentration, influent TN concentration, BOD5 removal rate, and TN removal rate (P < 0.01). Sensitivity analysis identified sewer retention time, fossil carbon fraction in influent, and solids retention time as the most influential parameters, with sensitivity coefficients of 0.42, 0.35, and 0.28, respectively. Considering uncertainties in emission factors and monitoring errors, the 95% confidence interval for annual total emissions was 55,200–67,600 t CO2-eq, corresponding to an emission intensity of 0.64–0.79 kg CO2-eq per tonne. Recommendations focus on three synergistic reduction strategies: reducing source emissions, lowering energy consumption, and enhancing carbon compensation.

Stress-Guided Anisotropic Etching of MoS2 Nanostructures with Spatial Control over Edge Structure and Morphology

The on-demand patterning of two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) with tailored edges is critical for electronic and optoelectronic applications but remains technically challenging. Here, we report a stress-guided anisotropic etching strategy for producing large-area, well-ordered MoS2 nanostructures, including nano-ribbons and nano-squares, without templates. By applying uniaxial cumulative stress followed by selective thermal etching, MoS2 monolayers are statistically etched into ribbon-like structures whose width inversely correlates with applied stress magnitude. The newly etched edges are macroscopically straight or serrated, predominantly Mo-zigzag terminated, and enhance photoluminescence by a factor of ~8.0. The edge type depends on the angle between stress direction and crystallographic orientation, corroborated by theoretical calculations. Biaxial stressing generates well-defined nano-squares, offering a scalable, versatile patterning route for engineering 2D materials with tailored functional edges, promising for electrocatalytic and optoelectronic applications.

Source-Sink Spatial Mismatch Characteristics and Health Risks of Soil BTEX in a Decommissioned Industrial Site on a Coastal Plain

The relocation of numerous industrial enterprises in China has left behind soil contamination, particularly by volatile organic compounds such as BTEX, whose migration and health risks are of great concern. Coastal plains, characterized by high groundwater tables and interbedded sedimentary strata, exhibit contaminant distribution and migration patterns distinct from inland regions. This study investigated a decommissioned resin plant site in the Yangtze River Delta coastal plain, systematically analyzing the spatial distribution, migration, and health risks of soil BTEX. Seven BTEX compounds were detected with detection rates ranging from 24.3% to 47.1%. Maximum concentrations of benzene, ethylbenzene, and m/p-xylene exceeded China's Class I construction land screening values. The contaminant plume was predominantly located in the southern product warehouse area, while the potential source was traced to the upstream wastewater treatment unit, indicating a 'source-sink' spatial mismatch. Vertically, contaminants exhibited a 'shallow-layer volatilization, middle-layer enrichment, and deep-layer retardation' pattern, with significant enrichment in silty clay at 3–6 m depth and sharp concentration declines in mucky clay. Membrane Interface Probe (MIP) multi-parameter detection revealed that benzene and toluene migrated as a whole, whereas chlorobenzene lagged due to strong adsorption. Benzene posed the most significant health risk, with carcinogenic risk up to 7.42×10⁻⁴ and non-carcinogenic hazard quotient up to 38.24, both exceeding acceptable levels. Inhalation of indoor air contaminated by vapor intrusion from underlying soil contributed over 87% of benzene's total risk, dominating the exposure pathway. This study elucidates the unique migration and risk formation mechanisms under high water table and interbedded strata, providing a scientific basis for precise investigation, risk assessment, and remediation of similar contaminated sites.

Composition Optimization of Liquid Ga Support for Uniform Cu Dispersion with Sustainable Electroreduction of CO2 to CH4

Liquid metals (LMs) are promising catalyst systems due to their unique interfacial properties, yet migration and aggregation of active species cause performance degradation. Here, we report a composition optimization strategy using a Ga-In eutectic liquid metal support to reduce surface energy and achieve homogeneous incorporation of Cu species (GaIn-Cu). Comprehensive characterizations confirm uniform Cu dispersion, which inhibits migration and formation of CuGa2 intermetallic phases during CO2 electroreduction (CO2RR). The GaIn-10-Cu catalyst achieves a maximum CH4 Faradaic efficiency of 73.49% at -0.8 V vs. RHE, significantly higher than Ga-Cu (61.49%). Moreover, GaIn-10-Cu exhibits enhanced stability for CH4 generation over 40 h of continuous operation. In-situ spectroscopic studies reveal that GaIn-10-Cu favors formation and protonation of key *CHO and *OCH3 intermediates, steering selectivity toward CH4. This work demonstrates that tuning LM composition modulates catalytic site performance, offering a strategy for durable and selective LM-based electrocatalysts.

Pinning effect mitigating Jahn-Teller distortion of manganese-rich phosphate cathodes in sodium-ion batteries

Manganese-iron-based mixed polyanionic cathodes are promising for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) due to high energy density and operating voltage, but suffer from Jahn-Teller distortion of Mn3+ that degrades cycling stability. Here, a structural modulation strategy via Mg2+ doping is reported. Electrochemically inert Mg2+ forms stronger chemical bonds, adjusts lattice parameters, and suppresses Jahn-Teller distortion, enhancing structural stability. Mg2+ also widens sodium-ion diffusion channels, improving diffusion kinetics. Additionally, an in-situ three-dimensional carbon nanotube (CNT) conductive network boosts electronic conductivity. The resulting NFMPP-Mg@CNTs cathode delivers a discharge capacity of 126 mAh g−1 at 0.1 C (near theoretical 129 mAh g−1), retains 80% capacity after 3000 cycles at 0.5 C, and achieves an energy density of 401 Wh kg−1, among the highest reported for mixed phosphate systems. Ex-situ XPS and first-principles calculations confirm that Mg2+ resists geometric distortion by enhancing lattice stability and widening Na+ diffusion pathways (migration barrier reduced from 0.566 to 0.398 eV). This work provides a viable route for high-energy, long-life SIB cathodes suitable for large-scale energy storage.

The interface interaction of sulfur-doped carbon boosting kinetics of Na4Fe3(PO4)2(P2O7) for high rate and stable sodium-ion batteries

Iron-based mixed phosphates are considered promising cathode materials for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) due to low cost, non-toxicity, and high structural stability. However, their electrochemical performance is limited by poor electronic conductivity and sluggish ion diffusion. This study presents Na4Fe3(PO4)2(P2O7) with porous coral-like S-doped carbon (NFPP-U0.5%) as cathode material for SIBs. The porous coral-like structure of the S-doped carbon layer, along with C–S–Fe interaction, significantly enhances electronic conductivity and sodium ion diffusion. NFPP-U0.5% delivers excellent rate performance, achieving 80.3 mAh g−1 at 20 C. In-situ X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the C–S–Fe interaction, combined with the unique carbon structure, contributes to a small lattice volume change during cycling. NFPP-U0.5% reached an ultra-long cycling life with capacity retention of 82.66% after 25,000 cycles at 20 C. The outstanding electrochemical performances and unique interface interaction demonstrate that S-doped carbon coating NFPP is of high potential as a cathode material for low cost and long-lasting cyclability energy storage systems.

Machine Learning and High-Throughput Computation-Assisted Precise Synthesis of Quantum Dots for Reliable Neuromorphic Computing

Quantum dot (QD)-based memristors enable precise and energy-efficient neuromorphic computing through atomic-level control over electrical synapse performance. However, the stochastic nature of QD structures results in poor reliability of resistive switching, limiting practical applications. This work presents a data-driven QD synthesis optimization loop that integrates high-throughput density functional theory with machine learning to establish a cross-scale screening platform for precise QD synthesis. By minimizing structural disorder through pure phase, uniform size distribution, and highly preferred orientation, QD-based memristors demonstrate a 57% reduction in switching voltage, a two-order-of-magnitude increase in ON/OFF ratio, and endurance and retention degradation as low as 0.1% over 8.4 × 10^7 s of continuous operation and 10^5 rapid read cycles. The dynamic learning range and neuromorphic computing accuracy improve by 477% and 27.8% (reaching 92.23%), respectively. These findings establish a scalable, data-driven strategy for rational design of QD-based memristors, advancing next-generation reliable neuromorphic computing systems.

Zn-doped Ga2O3 based two-terminal artificial synapses for neuromorphic computing applications

Amorphous gallium oxide (a-Ga2O3) suffers from low carrier concentration and limited mobility, impeding its use in neuromorphic computing. This study fabricates Zn-doped Ga2O3 (ZGO) two-terminal artificial synaptic devices via radio-frequency magnetron sputtering (RFMS) under oxygen-free conditions. Compared to undoped Ga2O3, the ZGO device exhibits a 106-fold increase in excitatory post-synaptic current under 254 nm illumination, with response intensity positively correlated to optical pulse parameters. Under light pulse modulation, the devices demonstrate dynamic transitions from short-term plasticity to long-term plasticity, including paired-pulse facilitation and a learning-forgetting-relearning process. Electrical and optical energy consumptions of synaptic events are as low as 28 fJ and 2 nJ, respectively. Mechanism analysis attributes the persistent photoconductivity effect in ZGO thin films to abundant oxygen vacancies. A multi-layer perceptron simulation based on ZGO devices achieves 90.74% accuracy in handwritten digit recognition and maintains 76.18% accuracy under 50% noise. Zn doping provides a new material design approach for Ga2O3-based neuromorphic devices, demonstrating potential for future neuromorphic computing applications.

Molecularly Engineered Lipid Droplet-Targeted NIR-II Type I AIE Photosensitizers Trigger Ferroptosis and Apoptosis for Cancer Therapy

Despite advancements in lipid droplet (LD)-targeted photosensitizers (PSs), critical challenges persist in achieving deep-tissue penetration, overcoming tumor hypoxic resistance, and coordinating multimodal cell death pathways. To address these limitations, a molecular engineering strategy was introduced to construct a series of aggregation-induced emission (AIE) PSs (MOITP, MOITM, and MOITT), which exhibited near-infrared (NIR) emission. The strong electron-withdrawing capability of the acceptor moiety in MOITT resulted in a bathochromic shift in absorption (606 nm) and NIR-II emission (1080 nm). Under 808 nm laser irradiation, MOITT exhibited the strongest type I reactive oxygen species generation and the highest photothermal conversion efficiency (η = 44%). Notably, MOITT nanoparticles (NPs) showed efficient cellular internalization and selective accumulation in LDs. Upon laser irradiation, phototherapy mediated by MOITT NPs initiated lipid peroxidation, triggering ferroptosis while synergistically inducing apoptosis. In vivo studies demonstrated that MOITT NPs enabled high-resolution NIR-II fluorescence imaging of blood vessels and effective imaging-guided phototherapy to eradicate tumors. This work establishes a novel paradigm for spatiotemporal control of cancer therapy through organelle-specific multimodal cell death integration.
