Dual-functional light adaptation in perovskite quantum dot synaptic devices for smart blue-light protection

Perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) hold great potential for brain-like neuromorphic computing. However, the development of PQDs-based synaptic devices is hindered by interfacial defects and limited stability. Here, we demonstrate a high-performance Cs2AgBiBr6 QDs/organic single crystal heterojunction synaptic device, fabricated via a novel space-confined vertical growth technique combined with a polymer-free transfer process. Vertically grown organic single crystals enable superior carrier mobility and facilitate the formation of low-defect interfaces with PQDs. The heterojunction exhibits remarkable photosensitivity (7.22 × 10^5 at 425 nm) and detectivity (2.15 × 10^15 Jones), owing to the strong optical absorption of PQDs coupled with the superior charge transport characteristics of organic single crystals. Notably, the device achieves dual-functional light adaptation, emulating synaptic behaviour under blue light while exhibiting photo-switching under green/red light. This unique capability enables smart blue-light hazard protection. This work not only provides a versatile platform for high-performance PQDs-based synaptic devices but also advances the development of brain-inspired neuromorphic systems for next-generation computing and intelligent sensing.

Recent advances in layer engineering and controllable fabrication of graphene, h-BN, and transition metal dichalcogenides

Multilayer two-dimensional (2D) materials offer expanded opportunities for tuning electronic, optical, and quantum properties compared to their monolayer forms. The number of layers, stacking configuration, and interlayer interactions are critical parameters that govern the physical behavior of these materials, enabling unique functionalities such as tunable bandgaps, interlayer excitons, sliding ferroelectricity, and unconventional superconductivity. This review highlights recent progress in the precise fabrication techniques of multilayer graphene, h-BN, and transition metal dichalcogenides. We compare artificial assembly techniques and direct growth strategies (chemical vapor deposition), emphasizing their advantages, limitations, and progress toward achieving uniform thickness, high crystallinity, and clean interfaces. The ability to engineer multilayer structures plays an essential role in improving device performance and realizing new quantum states of matter. By discussing fabrication strategies, growth mechanisms, and interlayer coupling effects, we highlight the significance of multilayer architecture in the development of functional 2D material systems.

Reversible Modulation of Circularly Polarized Luminescence in Chiral Molecular Cage-Based Supramolecular Assemblies

Supramolecular materials exhibiting reversible circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) are of great interest for their potential applications in the development of 3D display technology and information encryption. In this work, we synthesize a pair of molecular cage enantiomers constructed from (2R)/(2S)-diaminocyclohexane-functionalized naphthalenediimide units ((4R/S)Cy-NDIDA) and fluorescent tris(4-formylphenyl)amine (TPA) components. The cage exhibits extremely weak fluorescence emission in both liquid and solid states. Notably, the introduction of tris(pentafluorophenyl)borane (TFPB) as a guest molecule gradually activates the photoluminescence (PL) and CPL signals of the chiral cage via host-guest interaction. Furthermore, photochromic diarylethene (DAE) is incorporated into the system. The reversible isomerization of DAE under light irradiation enables dynamic control of Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) interactions with the host-guest complex, resulting in switchable fluorescence quenching and recovery. This precise strategy for controlling dynamic CPL switching of the chiral molecular cage offers a novel strategy for the development of supramolecular CPL systems.
