High-Be Cu-Be alloys exhibit dendritic segregation and brittle β/γ phases, complicating processing and applications. This study investigates the influence of cooling path on eutectoid transformation, microstructure, and mechanical properties in Cu-2.8Be and Cu-3.8Be alloys. A two-step homogenization treatment effectively eliminates segregation and suppresses the formation of harmful acicular phases. Diffusion-kinetic and thermodynamic analyses demonstrate that both the initial temperature and cooling rate determine eutectoid morphology and extent. Crystallographic and Eshelby-based analyses reveal that the β → γ transformation involves an isotropic contraction of ~3.9%, producing much lower strain energy than the anisotropic β → α transformation (~28.5% expansion and ~9.2% contraction), thus explaining the preferential nucleation of γ. Rapid cooling promotes incomplete eutectoid decomposition along grain boundaries, forming fine α/γ lamellae with interlamellar spacing down to ~7 nm. Lattice strain analysis confirms considerable distortions at α/γ interfaces (ε_xx = 0.0167, ε_yy = 0.0095). The mechanical incompatibility and high internal strain at these interfaces cause stress concentration and crack initiation. This work establishes a process-microstructure-property-mechanism framework essential for controlling the performance of high-Be Cu-Be alloys.

Exploring efficient bifunctional electrocatalysts for both hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions is key to water electrolysis. However, the inherently slow reaction kinetics of electrocatalysis are constrained by mass transfer limitations and unsuitable adsorption/desorption dynamics. Herein, a Fe-doped-Ni3S2/NiFeCoCeIn oxide hydroxide (FNS/HEOXY) crystalline–amorphous heterostructure electrocatalyst with a large work function difference (ΔΦ) and strong built-in electric field (BEF) is successfully designed and synthesized. Benefiting from the electron transfer behavior from FNS to HEOXY, the FNS/HEOXY shows outstanding catalytic activity for both hydrogen and oxygen evolution, along with ultra-high stability in an alkaline medium at an industrial-level current density. Moreover, the anion exchange membrane water electrolyzer (AEMWE) assembled by the FNS/HEOXY requires only a minimal cell voltage of 1.83 V to reach 1 A cm−2 at 80 °C. Both experimental and theoretical results confirm the interfacial charge redistribution induced by the strong BEF, thus finely optimizing the adsorption energy. This work proposes a new design principle toward efficient electrocatalysts for energy conversion.

Phosphate-solubilizing microorganisms (PSM) can immobilize cadmium (Cd) by dissolving insoluble phosphates and inducing the precipitation of stable Cd-phosphate minerals. However, the low bioavailability of soil phosphorus and the relatively low Cd2+ concentrations often limit the efficiency of microbial-induced phosphate precipitation (MIPP). This study proposed a combined strategy using the phosphate-solubilizing bacterium Klebsiella aerogenes Wn (Wn) and hydroxyapatite (HAP) to enhance Cd immobilization in paddy soil. Pot experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects on soil Cd availability and rice grain Cd accumulation, and the underlying mechanisms were investigated. Results showed that the combined treatment stabilized soil pH between 5.8 and 6.7 and electrical conductivity between 66 and 290 μS·cm−1, while increasing available phosphorus by 4%–67%. The optimal treatment (T4: 8 g·kg−1 HAP + 3.75×10^9 cfu·kg−1 Wn) reduced soil available Cd by 40.2% and decreased rice grain Cd to 0.0699 mg·kg−1, which is 65% below the national food safety limit. Microbial community analysis confirmed successful colonization of Wn. Pure culture experiments demonstrated that Wn induced phosphate precipitation, forming a more stable cadmium hydroxyapatite mineral [Ca3.9(Ca4.7Cd0.7)(PO4)6(OH)1.8]. The combined Wn-HAP treatment is an efficient strategy for remediating Cd-contaminated farmland, with significant potential for ensuring agricultural product safety and promoting soil remediation.

Building heating and cooling account for 60% of operational energy consumption, and conventional radiative coolers suffer from thermal accumulation and high-temperature damage under continuous solar irradiance. This work reports a dual-functional polyimide (PI)-based phase change composite aerogel that integrates latent heat storage with radiative cooling. Carbonized PI fibers (CPIF) were fabricated via electrospinning, dispersed in polyamic acid aqueous solution, and freeze-dried followed by thermal imidization to yield CPIF/PI aerogels (CPs). Vacuum impregnation with molten polyethylene glycol (PEG) produced CPIF/PI phase change materials (CPPCMs), which were surface-coated with boron nitride (BN) to obtain shape-stable BN@CPPCMs. CPIF enhances thermal conductivity and, through compatibility with the PI matrix, improves structural stability. The BN coating raises solar reflectivity, suppressing operational temperature rise. The composite prevents single-function radiative coolers from thermal accumulation and high-temperature damage, achieving high enthalpy efficiency and effective temperature regulation. The protocol addresses the bottleneck of insufficient indoor temperature regulation in energy-efficient buildings by combining solar-thermal conversion and storage with passive radiative cooling in a single shape-stable architecture.
