Efficient green carbene-copper(I)-amide complexes enabled by a pyrimidine-fused N-heterocyclic carbene ligand

Copper(I)-based carbene-metal-amide (CMA) emitters offer an earth-abundant alternative to precious-metal phosphors for organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), yet efficient green emission remains scarce due to limited π-extension and unbalanced charge-transfer characteristics of N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands. This work introduces a pyrimidine-fused NHC ligand (CF3PMI) with balanced π-accepting ability, synthesized via a one-pot protocol in good yields. The resulting Cu(I)-CMA complex CF3PMI-BFCF3 exhibits green thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) in doped thin films, with a photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 90% and a short emission lifetime of 1.16 μs. A vacuum-deposited OLED achieves green electroluminescence centered at 514 nm with an external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 22.7%. Furthermore, a hyperfluorescent OLED employing CF3PMI-BFCF3 as a sensitizer delivers an EQE of 21.8%, green emission at 537 nm, and a narrow full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 30 nm. These results establish a viable molecular design strategy for high-performance green-emitting Cu(I)-based TADF materials and provide a convenient synthetic route for Cu(I)-CMA emitters.

Mechanism of Desulfurization Pretreatment of Barium-Containing Waste Slag by Calcium Carbonate Precipitation Method

Barium slag, a solid waste from barium salt production, poses environmental risks due to high sulfur and soluble barium content. This study investigated the desulfurization of barium slag using sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) as a precipitating agent. The effects of reaction temperature, time, and Na2CO3 concentration on desulfurization efficiency were systematically evaluated. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) were employed to analyze phase transformations and microstructural evolution. Results showed that desulfurization primarily proceeds via the reaction of ettringite (Ca6(Al(OH)6)2(SO4)3·26H2O) with Na2CO3, forming calcium carbonate (CaCO3) precipitates. However, the precipitated CaCO3 accumulates on ettringite surfaces, hindering further reaction. Under optimal conditions (60 °C, 5 h, 2 mol/L Na2CO3), the desulfurization efficiency reached 91.21%, reducing sulfur content in the slag to 0.27%, meeting the HJ 662—2013 standard for cement kiln co-processing. This work provides a mechanistic basis for efficient and environmentally sound treatment of barium slag, supporting its resource utilization in cement production.

Safe Utilization of High Cadmium Cropland by Random Forest Based on Soil Properties

Cadmium (Cd) accumulation in crops is influenced by complex, crop-specific factors, posing challenges for the safe utilization of soils with elevated Cd levels. This study focused on a region with anomalously high soil Cd in northern Longshan County, Hunan Province, China. We systematically collected and analyzed Cd concentrations in the edible parts of lily (Lilium spp.) and maize (Zea mays L.), along with corresponding root-zone soil properties including Cd content, pH, and oxide levels. The bioconcentration factors (BCF-Cd) for lily and maize were compared, and their controlling factors were identified. Using random forest with hyperparameter optimization, optimal predictive models for BCF-Cd were developed for each crop. Results showed that lily BCF-Cd was significantly higher than that of maize. Key factors influencing BCF-Cd in both crops included soil pH, manganese (Mn), organic matter (OM), and the weathering-leaching coefficient (ba). Feature importance analysis identified soil pH as the most critical factor. Based on model predictions, a zoning scheme for safe arable land utilization was proposed to maximize land productivity while ensuring the medicinal safety of lily and food safety of maize. This study provides scientific support for enhancing food security and optimizing land resource use.
